Abstract

Ultrafast light diffraction measurements show strong influence of local strain in multiscale VO2 grains on initial phase of coherent lattice oscillations accompanying the light-induced insulator-metal transition. Anisotropy of strain field in epitaxial film significantly affects the transition rate.
