Ultrafast Generation of Aqueous Carbonic Acid

Abstract

We generate carbonic acid, a molecule of elusive nature, by ultrafast protonation of bicarbonate in aqueous solution, which follows the free energy reactivity correlation known for carboxylate anions, with an associated pKa-value of 3.45 ± 0.15.
