Real-time Investigation of Elementary Steps for Photo-induced Phase Transition in a Model Dimer

Abstract

Using femtosecond pump and probe spectroscopy and ab-initio calculations, we show that photoexcitation of dimers of tetramethyl-tetrathiafulvalene cations induces predominantly coherent phonons that lead to photoinduced phase transitions in linear chains of these materials.
