Few-optical-cycle regime for the generation of high-order harmonic: enhanced conversion and brightness

Abstract

The interaction of a few-optical-cycle pulse with matter have shown novel phenomena [1]. Moreover, the high intensity which can be realized for a few semi-cycles of the laser optical-period may induce the tunnel ionization or even ionization due to barrier suppression. The resultant photoelectrons are driven in a coherent motion which influences both the above-threshold-ionization electron spectrum as well as the photon spectrum emitted due to recombination. In particular, in this work we analyze the condition of enhanced generation efficiency and brightness of extreme ultraviolet (XUV) radiation in the case of a 7 fs pump pulse on a jet of different gases.
