Early events in the photoexcitation of π-conjugated chains studied with sub-10-fs time resolution

Abstract

Using sub-10-fs pulses, pump-probe experiments were carried out on prototypical it-conjugated chains belonging to the class of carotenoids and semiconducting polymers. The internal-conversion rate and the subsequent excited state thermalization are directly measured.
