Direct Observation of Ultrafast Dynamics of Electron Thermalization in Gold

Abstract

Using time-resolved surface second harmonic generation (SHG), an electron temperature dependent enhancement in the SHG signal is observed, for the first time, in the high temperature regime resolving the thermalization of nonequilibrium hot electrons.
