Abstract

A new type of optically-controlled phase shifter (OCPS) is proposed for an ultrafast retiming circuit, that is employed in a distributed manner. The retimer is called a traveling- wave retimer, which is one of the basic cells of our newly developed logic ICs. First, we briefly overview the results of the investigations on this new logic, and then the structure, the operating principles and several experimental results of the proposed device are discussed. The device is based on the InGaAs/InP uni-traveling-carrier photodiode structure that suits ultrafast operation. Experiments confirmed the high efficiency of the device in terms of input optical power.
