Abstract

For future ultra high speed fiber optic telecommunication1 and/or very fast industrial measurements2, one need compact, stable and reliable sources of pico and subpicosecond optical pulses. The gain-switching operation of semiconductor distributed feedback (DFB) laser diode (LD) is advantageous to other pulse generation methods due to the controllability of pulse intervals in a wide range.
