Active Terahertz Wave Front Modulator Based on Metasurface

Abstract

Terahertz radiation will be the carry frequency for the next generation (6G) wireless communication. Beam tracking will be the main technology in the 5G/6G wireless communications. However, due to lack of natural materials which can interact with the terahertz radiation, the high-performance spatial terahertz modulator has not been developed. We proposed a novel approach to generate the programmable metasurface for dynamic modulation of terahertz wave front, including amplitude, phase and even polarization to meet this challenge. Experimental results demonstrated the validity of this new method.
