Simultaneous Two-Photon Excitation of Photodynamic Therapy Agents

Abstract

Single-photon and two-photon excitation (TPE) of type I and II photosensitizers are examined. TPE is achieved using a mode-locked titanium:sapphire laser. In vitro and in vivo results support safe activation of PDT agents using non-resonant excitation in the near-infrared. TPE appears to offer finer treatment margins and may enable increased depth of penetration.
