Abstract

A thin flexible metal membrance was adopted as the radial positioning mechanism of cylinder. The mechanism has advantages of a better stiffness in the parallel surface direction, a better flexibility in the vertical surface direction, compact structure, no friction, zero clearance, light weight and high reliability. By using the finite element method, nonlinear geometry algorithms was adopted, an analysis was carried on the flexble membrane with different topology and geometry. Based on the analysis, the flexible membrance was designed and optimized. And the flexibility of different topology membrances was also tested. By comparative analysis of experimental results and simulation results, it was found that the simulation and experimental results have a good trend consistency.
