Thermodynamic Limits of Solar Cell Efficiency

Open Access Open Access

Abstract

A general analysis of the coversion of solar heat to electrical energy in solar cells is presented. Some solar cell structures and processes are described which, in principle, avoid thermalization losses and allow efficiencies as high as 86%.
