Optimal Mode Scrambling for Mode-Multiplexed Optical Fiber Transmission Systems

Abstract

Performance of mode-multiplexed systems can be improved by additional coupling introduced by mode-scramblers. We propose a new scrambling strategy that reduces the impact of mode-dependent-loss by using a small number of deterministic scramblers.
