Noise Properties of Semiconductor Optical Amplifiers Based Slow Light Elements

Abstract

Semiconductor optical amplifiers acting as slow light elements offer large phase shifts provided that their output spectra are filtered prior to detection. The filtering affects their noise properties which are described in this paper.
