Laser-induced nonthermal melting in Si

Abstract

In Si an ultrashort laser pulse excitation induces a nonthermal state with ensuing bond softening which leads to nonthermal melting. Our simulations allow us to explain the concerted decay of several x-ray diffraction peaks.
