Sub-10 fs RMS Measurement of X-Ray/Optical Delay

Abstract

We present spectral-encoding of the relative delay between a soft x-ray FEL pulse and an optical laser. We measure a sub-10 fs x-ray induced modulated optical transmission that indicates a sub-10 fs RMS measurement error.
