Positive and Negative Mechanical Kerr Nonlinearities in Periodically-patterned Silicon Waveguides

Abstract

We design periodic silicon waveguides with mechanical Kerr coefficients of positive or negative sign. The mechanical Kerr coefficient is >3 orders of magnitude larger than the Kerr coefficient of silicon for suspended lengths ~30 µm.
