Observation of higher-band defect modes in two-dimensional photonic lattices

Abstract

We report the experimental demonstration of bandgap guidance of light by a single-site negative defect in optically-induced two-dimensional photonic lattices. The guided patterns display fine spatial structures arising from defect modes excited at higher bandgaps.
