The asymmetric transmission properties of a single dressed sub-wavelength aperture

Abstract

We demonstrate that the optical transmission properties of a sub-wavelength aperture with surrounding periodic nanostructuring are determined primarily by the properties of the illuminated surface. This is in sharp contrast to the behavior of a periodic array of sub-wavelength apertures.
