Abstract
A theory of optical control via the virtual excitation of excitons of the spin dynamics of an electron in a single semiconductor quantum dot and of the interaction dynamics of two spins in two neighboring dots is reported. Its relevance to quantum information processing is given. The current status of the relevant experimental development is surveyed.
