Abstract

Time-resolved x-ray diffraction is a powerful probe of structural dynamics on ultrafast time- scales.1 For pump-probe studies the timing resolution is limited by the x-ray probe duration which is ~100 ps for synchrotron sources. Coherent control of lattice motion has been proposed as a means to switch the diffraction of x- rays on and off on a sub-picosecond time-scale.2
