Abstract

The presence of photonic band gap–an interval of optical frequencies for which the propagation of elcctromagnetic radiation is strongly inhibited, makes the photonic crystals (PC) are of great importance both for applications and fundamental research. Among the other effects observed in PC, like large optical dispersion near the band edges, optical bistability and localization of light, new phenomena could be observed in the nonlinear-optical response of PC.
