Abstract

The lifetime and dynamics of vortices in a Bose-Einstein condensate (BEC) of dilute atomic vapor is expected to shed light on the superfiuid character of BEC in the alkalis. There already exists for comparison a rich body of work on vortices in other macroscopic quantum systems such as superfiuid helium.
