Abstract

Atomic dynamics are only indirectly measurable using optical spectroscopy. Ultrafast x-ray diffraction allows quantitative measurement of atomic movement with milliangstrom spatial resolution [1] and with picosecond or sub-picosecond time resolution [1-4].
