Abstract

Recent progress in the realization of continuous-wave (cw) optical parametric oscillators (OPO)1 has made it possible to experimentally investigate the classical dynamics of pump-resonant OPOs, away from steady-state and in (cw) steady-state. Two corresponding types of dynamics, spiking and relaxation oscillations, should be observable if the pump cavity lifetime is sufficiently large and if the OPO is sufficiently high above threshold.3
