Abstract
Nonlinear planar resonators are well suited for the demonstration of basic phenomena such as, e.g., bistability, self-oscillation, and prattern formation. Recently the interest has focused on stable localized structures (SLS’s)1,2 because their particle-like behavior can be exploited in future all-optical -signal processing and storage, SLS's were found both in saturable absorptive and saturable focusing media. We demonstrate for the first time, we believe, that various types of SLS’s can be identified in semieonductor resonators where the nonlinearity is saturable and defocusing as a result of the carrier dynamics.
