Applications of the quantum kinetic master equation to the growth of a trapped Bose-Einstein condensate

Abstract

Two methods based on the quantum kinetic master equation1 are used to describe the growth of a BEG in a trap. The quantum Boltzmann master equation is applied2 to a Bose gas in a 3D square well potential with periodic boundary conditions and to a Bose gas confined in an isotropic harmonic oscillator. We calculate the stationary solutions including the mean collision time. The behavior of die system is studied when the equilibrium distribution is disturbed and when the simulation starts m a state far from equilibrium.
