Abstract

Realization of frequency converters requires macroscopic second-order nonlinear effects. This implies a material optimization both at the molecular and macroscopic scales. Molecules, together with showing high second polarizabilities β, have to be assembled in non-centrosymmetric systems. It is also necessary to achieve phase-matching conditions. Use of organic molecules appears interesting because of the large benefit that can be derived from molecules with high second-order polarizabilities.
