Abstract
Using an interference between two photoionization processes, we have demonstrated coherent control of the branching ratio for ionization into different continuum channels of atomic barium. Both pathways in this interference are two-photon ionization processes, resonantly enhanced by intermediate states. The interference we exploit in this control scheme is insensitive to the relative phase of the laser fields, leading to a very robust control mechanism.
