Abstract
Experimental observation of one-dimensional (ID) and two-dimensional (2D) bright and dark spatial soliton propagation has been reported in photorefractive media.1'4 The experiments were performed under externally applied dc field, which clearly sets some particular direction in the plane perpendicular to the axis of soliton propagation. A theoretical study of the induced nonlinear refractive index by a light beam in a photorefractive media with a photogalvanic nonlinearity or an externally applied electric was presented by Zozulya et al.5 In their paper anisotropy in the response of the medium was predicted for a 2D light beam.
