Abstract

Two-photon absorption in solids is well- known and extensively characterized nonlinear optical process. Higher order multi-photon absorption has received comparatively little study because most materials are damaged before entering this regime. In a series of experiments using 125 ps CO2 laser pulses,1 we identified conditions for three- and four-photon absorption in 1-mm samples of bulk InAs (N ~ 5 × 1016 cm-3).
