Abstract
Following photoexcitation of an impurity ion in a crystal, phonons are emitted associated with the nonradiative energy transfer from “hot" ion into the lattice environment. The nonequilibrium vibronic states populated during the nonradiative relaxation of Cr4+ impurity ions in Mg2GeO4, were measured using up-converted hot luminescence to obtain information on the phonon modes and electronic bottlenecks involved.1
