Abstract

Generation of ultrafast terahertz (THz) radiation using femtosecond lasers has attracted much attention for a variety of potential applications [1-2]. In this contribution, we present a technique for manipulating ultrafast THz electromagnetic waveform through optical pulse shaping. Our results show that we can increase the generation efficiency of a selected THz frequency by using multiple optical pulse excitation to overcome saturation effects commonly encountered in generating high power THz radiation. In addition, by using specially tailored femtosecond pulses to excite photoconductive antennas, we have demonstrated the ability for controlling the amplitude and phase of THz electromagnetic waveforms.
