Adaptive imaging of atomic interference patterns

Abstract

We demonstrate adaptive imaging of atomic interference patterns by using Raman-induced resonance imaging in a high magnetic-field gradient.1 Two different imaging methods are investigated. For the first method, a movable virtual optical slit is created in the imaging region. The slit is moved by changing the frequency of the transition-inducing fields. For the second method, a virtual optical grating with a variable period and position is created.
