Abstract

Charge separation is an important physical process. Since the early 1980's, a series of charge-transfer compounds have been synthesized as molecular models for the investigation of charge separation in photosynthesis. Recently, we synthesized some new intramolecular charge-transfer compounds with an absorption band at a shorter wavelength. We have found that some microcrystals of these new compounds possess an extremely high efficiency of upconversion fluorescence, or frequency doubling. In this paper, upconversion fluorescence in two new intramolecular charge-transfer compounds (NDPB and OTMP) is reported.
