Ultrafast gain dynamics in strongly confined CdSe quantum dots

Abstract

Strongly confined quantum dots are believed to exhibit excellent laser properties (e.g., low threshold) because of the zerodimensional confinement of the oscillator strength in the quantized energy levels. However, a decreased carrier relaxation rate due to a phonon-bottleneck1 effect could prevent efficient operation of a quantum- dot laser.
