Abstract

Experimental studies of the bidirectional emission of a photorefractive resonator with a BaTiO3 crystal pumped by counterprop- agating beams of 10:1 relative intensity show spontaneous pattern alternation in definite and repeatable sequences, as observed previously for unidirectional emission with a single pump beam.1 The number of distinct patterns and the complexity of the dynamics depend on the Fresnel number.
