Abstract
Squeezing, using optical parametric amplification (i.e. a second-order nonlinearity, or χ(2)) has a long history. Squeezing with a third-order nonlinearity (χ(3)) was pioneered by the IBM group of Levenson and Shelby1 using cw excitation. The use of pulses in a Sagnac loop proposed by Shir- asaki and Haus2 was followed up by experiments at IBM using solitons and at MIT using Gaussian pulses at 1.3 μm, at the zero dispersion wavelength of the fiber.
