Abstract

The light generated by a phase-conjugate mirror (PCM) is predicted to exhibit excess quantum noise that is inherent to the phase- conjugation process.1 It is important to characterize the fundamental noise limit of a PCM, because this limit determines the smallest signal that can be phase conjugated. This issue is important for applications such as optical communications and information processing.
