Abstract
It is well known from the literature that phase-insensitive amplifiers introduce at least 3 dB of extra noise in the output, whereas phase-sensitive amplifiers may preserve the input signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) and in this sense are noiseless. Although noiseless amplification in the temporal domain has been discussed in several papers,1,2 its spatial counterpart has been neglected. Here we provide the first step toward the noiseless amplification of optical images.
