Optical control of cold collisions

Abstract

Ultracold collisions between atoms offer a unique opportunity to exert control over collisional dynamics with laser radiation. The collisional energy can be much smaller than the light shifts created by the laser, and the collisional duration may be significantly longer than the excited-state lifetime.
