Abstract
Multiple scattering of classical waves in ordered and disordered structures is a growing field of interest. Among other relevant phenomena observed, cooperative scattering in three-dimensional periodic structures may lead to the appearance of photonic band gaps1 and to the inhibition of spontaneous emission.2 This range of phenomena may be expanded when nonlinear scattering effects are considered. Lawan- dy's group demonstrated a macroscopic orientation in sheared colloidal crystals and discussed its use for optical second-harmonic generation (SHG).2’
