Phase control in the two-color photoionization of HD and the photodissociation of HD+

Abstract

An intense (~2 × 1013-W/cm2) two-color laser field with a variable relative phase between the two colors is used in a study of the photoionization of HD and the subsequent photodissociation of the molecular ion HD+. Both processes show a sensitive phase dependence. The photoionization shows a larger-than-expected modulation in yield, with a period of π in the relative phase between the two colors, in the photodissociation of HD+, either the H or D fragment will be charged, and an asymmetry in the angular distribution of either charged fragment, modulated with a period of 2π in the phase, is observed.
