Abstract

We used incoherent degenerate four-wave mixing (FWM) to study the optical relaxation of nile blue organic dye molecules in the polymer PVOH at 5 K. Laser noise sources with bandwidths of 30 and 600 cm-1 and center frequencies varying from 620 to 680 nm were used to resolve various features of the line shape. The FWM response varies dramatically over our excitation range. We, and others, find that the homogeneous relaxation rate increases with increasing excitation frequency.
