Abstract

We study the picosecond time evolution of luminescence due to excitons and hot excitonic molecules (biexcitons) at 8 К in CdSe. We find that from an initial (<50 ps) temperature of 40 K, the biexcitons cool to 15 K in about 250 ps with an average energy loss rate (ELR) of a few 107 eV/s, mainly from acoustic-phonon emission. We also deduce the biexciton and exciton lifetimes to be 10 and 600 ps, respectively.
