Photon echo of a single light pulse

Abstract

The photon echo of a single light pulse in a magnetic or an electric field is predicted. This photon echo can take place even though inhomogeneous broadening is absent. The reversible relaxation of macroscopic optical polarization is also absent in this case, and, consequently, the ordinary photon echo cannot take place.
