Second-harmonic-generation studies of low-temperature transitions in dye-doped polymers

Abstract

We report on the first, to our knowledge, low-temperature molecular mobility experiments in dye-doped polymers. In our experiments we apply a voltage-step program to a thin-film-doped polymer with transparent indium tin oxide electrodes at a fixed temperature consisting of a zero, positive, zero, negative, zero voltage sequence as shown in Fig. I. The temperature is varied from approximately 100 to 400 K in 1-K increments, and the second-harmonic intensity is measured at each voltage step labeled (i) through (v) on the figure.
