Abstract

Various types of far-infrared (FIR) light sources that make use of an electron beam, such as synchrotron radiation from an electron-storage ring, a free-electron laser, or a Cerenkov laser have been developed. However, they need a huge and complex system. We propose a novel, compact light source in the FIR region that uses coherent Cerenkov radiation (CR).
