Abstract
We report the observation of substantially narrowed sub-Poissonian photon distributions in an ultrasensitive coherent amplifier (USCA). The USCA consisted of a Nd:YAG amplifier math a gain of 104 and a Brillouin-enhanced four-wave-mixing mirror (FWBM) operated in its high-gain state with an amplification of 106. This device has previously been shown to permit the observation of single photons.1 Its detectivity is limited by the single noise photon per mode that is produced by the YAG amplifier.
