K2 yellow-band and Rb2 orange-band excimer emissions by e-beam excitation

Abstract

There have been many studies of alkali dimer diffuse bands because of their excimer-type nature.1 As fundamental studies toward new tunable and high-power excimer lasers, we extend the work on the Na2 violet-band2 to the K2 yellow-band and the Rb2 orange-band emissions using e-beam pumping. The e- beam output of a Febetron 706 with a velvet cathode is injected into an oven cell containing dense Rb or K vapor. The emission from the cell is introduced to a spectrum multichannel analyzer (SMA) through an MgF2 window at the end of the cell. The resolution of SMA system is 0.12 nm/channel.
